Salad and Go drive-thru

Perhaps you can relate…

Let’s set the scenario. You’re nearing the end of a very busy day – maybe it was back-to-back meetings at work followed by errands, a busy travel day or the kids’ sports practices went late on a school night – and decide to grab fast food for dinner. Getting yourself or the family fed quickly? Sounds great. Check!

But less than two hours later you’re all feeling hungry again. Why!?

Most of us choose what’s accessible, quick, and affordable. Sometimes these options have more refined carbohydrates that are not as satiating as options that are fiber-forward, protein-rich, or abundant in heart-healthy fats.

You expected that the money you spent would at the very least keep you full and satisfied until the end of the night.

It’s frustrating because we want the foods we put in our bodies to fuel us, taste great, and not break the bank. It’s easy to feel let down by the options out there and wonder – okay, what benefits am I really getting here?

One of the ways I talk to my patients about hunger and satisfaction is to think about variety and what they can add to their routines. Enjoying a variety of nutrient-dense foods in their whole and minimally processed form with the mindful and intentional addition of added sugars, salts, and fats can be the basis for satisfying meals.

While it seems like the only options are overpriced and out of reach, Salad and Go stands apart for offering nourishing, whole foods that are high-quality, affordable, and delicious all at the same time.

Here are a few of my favorites at the moment that really pack a satiety punch:

  • Fajita Salad: Packed with hearty black beans, flavorful peppers and fresh pico de gallo. It’s also totally customizable, you could choose tofu, chicken, or steak as your protein and enjoy the included avocado as a heart-healthy fat.

  • Thai Salad: The Thai-inspired peanut dressing is absolutely delicious and on top of all of the colorful veggies, you have the option to add a wide variety of extra toppings including an egg or pickled red onions.

  • Roasted Autumn Salad: This one is not just for the fall – this tummy-warming salad can be enjoyed year-round! It’s perfect for those hot summer nights when you don’t want to turn on your oven, but really want roasted chicken and roasted Brussels sprouts.

The variety of nutrient-dense ingredients fuel us and keep us feeling well-nourished and satisfied. You can also mix and match and create your own custom salad or wrap to include your favorite ingredients. It’s practical, tastes great, and delivers lots of abundance all at the same time.
